Srinagar: Two militants have been killed in an encounter in Tral, police said on Thursday.

“Two militants, identified as Sabzar Ahmad Bhat and Faizan Ahmad, have been killed in an encounter with forces,” police sources said.

Gun fight between the militants and forces had started in Saimoo village of Tral this morning. Hundreds of people tried to help the militants escape from the encounter site but due the presence of huge forces “no civilian was allowed to move towards the site”.

“It is a major success for the security forces,” the police said. Sabzar was lieutenant of popular Hizb ul Mujahideen Commander, Burhan Wani, who was killed on July 08, 2016 triggering massive anti-India protests in Kashmir.

Faizan joined Hizb on March 04 this year. He was a tenth standard student. Both the slain militants belong to main town Tral.
