Huge flags raised in honour of Burhan in Anantnag, brought down by forces

Srinagar: On the eve of the first anniversary of Burhan Wani, youth raised huge flags of the slain commander in his honour in Anantnag, however, forces brought them down.

According to locals, “Youth however raised the flags again and the forces brought them down again. This has been going on for some time now.”

Clashes were also reported from the district.

In Sagam area of the district, forces restored to tear gas shelling to disperse the protesters and in Dooru area police announced that a curfew is in place and people are advised to stay indoors.

The government has imposed strict curfew in various parts of the valley on the eve of the first death anniversary of popular Hizb commander Burhan Wani.

Earlier clashes erupted in his hometown Tral after people had assembled at Burhan’s home to offer Fateha, which was not allowed.

Meanwhile, A CRPF trooper was allegedly involved in a scuffle with a youth in the Downtown area of the city after he hurled abuses at him when he tried to venture out of his home.

The incident took place in Rajouri Kadal area of Downtown, Srinagar.

According to a local Javed (name changed), forces didn’t allow Azaan (call for prayer) in the area.

“The boy came out of his home and the trooper hurled an abuse at him and asked him to go back. This infuriated the boy and other youth who roughed him up. Soon other locals of the area of also got involved,” Javed said.

He added that police intervened after they reached the spot and calmed the situation.
