DC Kupwara bans extraction of sand, stones from Nallah Mawar

Srinagar: The district administration Kupwara on Thursday imposed ban on extracting sand and stones from Nallah Mawar in Langate area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Khalid Jahangir has also directed to seal the four stone crushers situated near the Nallah.

Jahangir has also imposed ban on digging of Nallah Mawar and use of JCBs there.

According to news gathering agency KNS, DC Kupwara has directed the department of geology and mining to stop receiving the royalty from crusher owners and sand extractors.

Jahangir has said that the extraction of sand and stones by men and machinery has resulted in the deteriorating geological condition of Nallah Mawar.

Sources said that the residents living nearer to the Nallah Mawar had informed the district administration that some blue-eyed persons have setup crushers near the Nallah who allegedly are extracting stones from the Nallah.

Following the requests made by the locals, the Deputy Commissioner today visited the Langate area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district during which he imposed ban on extraction of the stones, sand from the Nallah and sealed the four stone crushers on spot.
