Choti Cutter strikes in Kulgam, clashes erupt in Anantnag district

Anantnag: A fresh incident of braid-cutting has been reported from Nihama area of Kulgam district today.

The victim is a mother of three children, and is currently under treatment at Public Health Center Nihama.

According to various reports, the incident took place at 10 am.

Media reports say that clashes between protesters and police have erupted in Lal Chowk area of Islamabad town with police resorting to tear-gas shelling to disperse the crowds.

This is the sixth braid-cutting incident in two days. With five incidents reported in Anantnag and Budgam districts of Kashmir Valley on Friday.

Police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter. So far the police and the authorities have failed to pacify the panicked citizens.

On Friday, Jammu and Kashmir Police announced a reward of Rs 3 lakh for information on those involved in the braid chopping incidents.

A helpline has also been established so that “people could inform and seek assistance with regard to any braid cutting incident”.
