Srinagar: The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Dr Mohammad Omer Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik, on Saturday called for a shutdown on October 9, Monday against braid chopping incidents in state.

Commenting over the ‘incessant’ braid chopping the JRL said that it is a well thought out conspiracy and added that it is a big challenge for us as dignity of women folk is at stake. They appealed people to observe complete shutdown against humiliation meted to women.

Let us convey a message to these miscreants that in no way we will give up our resistance and will pursue the right to self-determination movement, said JRL.

Appealing to the people, the leaders maintained that unity and steadfastness is need of the hour and while making every such mischievous ploy a failure, we will pursue mission till its logical end, said JRL.

The braid cutting incidents in the valley have been creating a havoc and have been on the rise since the first time it happened in Kashmir’s Kulgam on September 14.

The people have accused the government authorities of being lenient in their investigations and even of being behind the attacks.

The police, however, maintains that there is no cooperation from the victims and that most victims of braid cutting are indeed victims of a mass hysteria.

This was first mentioned by the ex-head of psychiatry at AIIMS, Delhi wherein she mentioned that the women are chopping their hair themselves.
