KCCI says incidents like fake news in Times of India result in deepening of economic crises

Kashmir’s premiere trade body, Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) & its affiliated Tourism based organisations condemned the Fake News published by Times of India by Journalist Saleem Pandith that reported that Tourists in Kashmir were attacked.

In a press statement, the KCCI said, “we received with shock, the baseless news of visiting tourists having been targeted by mobs in Kashmir, as reported in a national daily yesterday by its Srinagar based correspondent.”

KCCI said that its local resources in the tourism industry had confirmed that any such occurrence did not take place.

“The KCCI also contacted the top level police sources who have denied the occurrence of any incident of this sort. It appears that a few from the media, not having in mind the repercussions of such unfounded reporting, which is bound to create panic in the minds of visiting tourists,” the statement said.

The KCCI said that this will also result in deepening of economic crises of tourism fraternity and others dependent indirectly on this industry.

KCCI therefore expects that all concerned in this regard would remain cautious henceforth in view of the above.

The TOI report claimed that on ‘late Sunday night, two buses carrying tourists from Indonesia were pelted with stones near Dal Lake. Prompt action by houseboat owners saved them. Two women tourists from Abu Dhabi suffered head injuries after being hit by stones thrown at their cab the airport on Sunday night. They were hospitalised. A mob attacked a tourist bus at Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district and threw stones at it, injuring two women from UP.’
