Traders’ union hold protest, demand immediate resumption of cross LoC trade

Posted on

Scores of traders affiliated with the Salamabad cross-LoC traders Union on Monday held a protest against the suspension of the Cross LoC trade and demanded its immediate resumption.

The protesters carried placards with messages like ‘We Want Justice’, ‘Trade chalao hamara karobar lotao’ and ‘resume trade, don’t play with our fate’.

Union Home Ministry last week suspended, with immediate effect, trade across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, saying it was being used by “unscrupulous and anti-national elements” for sneaking in hawala money and weapons from across the border.

Traders and politicians in Kashmir have criticised the government over the sudden suspension of the trade.

Reacting over the suspension, PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti had said that Narendra Modi wants to demolish all things and steps taken by Atal Bihari Vajapyee.

Earlier, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has also said that instead of enhancing people to people contact, Government of India, is losing whatever was achieved since the time of Atal Behari Vajapyee.

Omar Abdullah, in his reaction had said that Modi government by suspending the trade has buried yet another confidence building measure of the Vajpayee era.
