India records biggest single day jump with 7,964 COVID-19 cases, over 250 die in 24 hours

With the new cases India’s death toll has reached 4,971

India reported the biggest single-day jump in the number of Covid-19 patients and deaths linked with 7,964 fresh cases and 265 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, which brings the total to 1,73,763 cases, according to the data shared by Union Health Ministry this morning.

The country has logged 4,971 deaths since the pandemic began.

More than 80,000 patients have recovered so far. Of these, a record number of 11,264 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, reported NDTV.

Maharashtra is the worst hit Covid-19 state in India with highest number of Covid infections recorded so far with 33,133 cases and 2098 deaths so far. The Times of India reported that due to the sudden spike in Coronavirus cases, Chief Minister Udhav Thackery is not in favour of lifting the lockdown yet but the restrictions might be slightly eased in the state.

According to the data from the Johns Hopkins University’s Covid-19 Resource Centre, 3,65,034 deaths have been reported across the globe so far with United States being worst hit with more than 1 lakh fatalities followed by the United Kingdom, Italy, France and Brazil.

Yesterday, India surpassed China with as many as 4,706 deaths, compared to 4,638, the JHU data showed.

However, Lockdown 5.0 is likely to have relaxations for tourism and hospitality industry as the Indian Government is exploring ways to fulfill the demand of opening hotels, restaurants, beaches, etc. It is expected that the Union Government may come up with more relaxations which will kick start economic activities in some states.
