Man shoots bear dead after it attacks his father

Srinagar: A 45-year-old man on Wednesday shot dead a wild bear after the beast brutally injured his elderly father in Dardkote area of Uri in this north Kashmir’s frontier district.

Reports said that an elderly person identified as Nizzam-ud-Din son of Noor-ud-Din was attacked by a wild bear at Shudwani Dardkote area of Uri on Tuesday evening last.

In a bid ‘to save his father’, his middle aged son Shabir Ahmad fired and shot dead the wild beast from his 12 Bore rifle, a report quoted news agency GNS as saying.

Soon after the incident, the elderly man was rushed to sub-District Hospital Uri and subsequently to GMC Baramulla, where from he was referred to SKIMS Soura for advanced treatment.

Meanwhile, a joint team of Police and Wildlife Department have rushed to the spot to assess the situation and took the carcass of the beast and the rifle (used) into their possession, the report added.

Police have also taken the cognizance of the incident and a case under FIR Number 86/2020 u/s 431 of IPC and 51 Wildlife Act has also been lodged.
