Srinagar: IAS officer-turned-politician Shah Faesal on Monday stepped down as the president of J&K Peoples Movement (JKPM).

Faesal had dropped a hint about stepping away from politics on Sunday after he removed his political affiliations from his official twitter handle.

Faesal, who launched the party last year after quitting the service, was under detention after the abrogation of Article 370 and was released in June 2020.

Meanwhile, there are speculations that the topper of 2009 UPSC civil services exam may rejoin the government service; however, there is no official announcement from him or JKPM yet.

Earlier, a news report by IANS, quoting sources said that Faesal was conveyed by authorities that his resignation has not still been accepted yet.

Interestingly, despite Faesal submitting his resignation and forming a political party, his name was not removed from the list of J&K cadre IAS officers on the official website of the government.

In 2018, Faesal’s well-wishers had cautioned him, when he resigned to join politics, that politics might not be his cup of tea. He had tendered his resignation citing personal reasons.
