‘No funds to fix roads’, say officials as Pulwama’s Rahmoo residents protest, block traffic

Pulwama: Residents of Rahmoo in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday blocked the village’s main road to protest against the concerned authorities for failing to macadamise the damaged road, thus hampering the traffic movement for hours.

Scores of residents including men, women and children staged the protest at Rahmoo-Pulwama road connecting the south Kashmir districts with central Kashmir’s Budgam and sought the early redressal of the grievance.

According to the protesting residents, the eight-kilometre road was to get macadamised by PMGSY and R&B together; however, when PMGSY completed its six kilometres work, the last 2 kilometres to be completed by the R&B department, were left untouched.

“The last 2 kilometres from Rahmoo to Mitrigam, has been left by the department thus adding to our sufferings,” said one of the protesting resident.

“Despite repeated pleas to concerned authorities, no action is being taken on the ground,” he added.

Amid the protest demonstration, Tehsildar Rajpora, Pulwama, along with district’s AEE reached on the spot and assured full cooperation to the protesting residents.

In this regard, Superintending Engineer (SE) R&B said that there is a lapse of funds and the grievance will be forwarded to the concerned authority.

“Right from this office to JK Governor’s office everyone knows that there are no funds but we will still try to resolve the issue soon,” he said.
