Politicians seeking early assembly polls must cooperate with Delimitation Commission: LG Sinha

Jammu: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday said that those who demand early Legislative Assembly elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir must cooperate with the Delimitation Commission to complete the exercise at the earliest.

“Those demanding early Assembly polls in J&K must help and cooperate with the Delimitation Commission so that the process is completed and the polls are held in the UT,” he said in reply to a query while speaking to media persons at Jammu.

He said instead of criticizing the delimitation process and staying away from the exercise, the politicians who want early Assembly polls must help to complete the exercise.

“Once the delimitation exercise ends in J&K, the Election Commission of India will assess the situation and accordingly announce the poll dates,” he said.

Asked about the growing incidents of militancy in Srinagar, LG Sinha said that only two such incidents have happened in the city after which a module that was involved in the attack on a dhaba owner was busted and three accused arrested.

“In the second incident, two unarmed policemen were killed. I condemn such acts. Let me tell you that militancy won’t be allowed to grow at any cost,” he said.

On PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti advocating dialogue, he said India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) will take care of such things.
