Minor kidnapped, sexually assaulted by 2 in Kulgam, accused arrested: Police

Kulgam: Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday claimed to have arrested an accused person involved in kidnapping and sexually assaulting a minor within one hour after a complaint was received.

“Police Station Kulgam received a written complaint from an individual alleging therein that her daughter was kidnapped and assaulted sexually by two persons namely Shahrukh Safdar Khan, son of Safdar Ahmad Khan and Ishfaq Ahmad Khan, son of Fayaz Ahmad Khan both the residents of Chattabal Kulgam,” police said in a statement.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 183/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Kulgam and investigation was initiated.

“During the course of the investigation and strenuous efforts, police arrested one accused namely Shahrukh Safdar Khan within one hour after a complaint received by Police. He has been shifted to the police station where he remains in custody. Moreover, efforts are on to effect the arrest of another accused involved in the commission of the crime,” the statement said.

As part of the investigation, necessary medico-legal formalities were carried out and the minor was handed over to her legal heirs.

Further investigation into the matter is in progress, the statement added.
