Kashmir Crown editor Shahid Imran arrested in ‘extortion’ case

Baramulla: Police on Friday said it received an order from the court for lodging a First Information Report (FIR) against Kashmir Crown editor Shahid Imran and his associate Ashiq Mir.

“On this, a case under FIR number 145/2021 under sections 384, 385, 506 (1) 420 and 120B IPC, was registered in police station Dangiwacha,” police said in a statement. Dangiwacha is a Tehsil of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Police said: “During the course of investigation accused Ashiq Salam Mir, son of Abdul Salam Mir, a resident of Bagh Islam Baramulla was arrested on 26,08,2021.”

“Today on 27,08,2021 Kashmir Crown editor Shahid Imran Ganie, son of Ghulam Mohammad Ganie, a resident of Ruhama Rafiabad was formally arrested. The investigation is going on,” the statement added.

Earlier, Kashmir Age quoting official sources reported that Rs one lakh “extortion money” has been recovered so far from Mir.

Officials had said that investigations are underway and details would be shared at the appropriate time.
