Anantnag: Even as the Jammu and Kashmir administration claims to provide better healthcare facilities to the patients in Kashmir, the Maternity and Child Care Hospital (MCCH) Anantnag lacks a vital Biochemistry Analyzer, leaving the patients to suffer.

According to official sources, the Analyzer used to conduct various vital tests is dysfunctional for the past six months forcing the patients to visit costly private clinics.

“In absence of the instrument, the patients either visit Government Medical College Janglat Mandi or get the tests done at private laboratories,” said an official from MCCH.

The instrument developed a technical snag six months ago; however, neither was it repaired nor replaced, said a doctor blaming Medicity- a company dealing with medical instruments- for its delay.

The tests which could not be conducted due to the dysfunctional instrument include Kidney Function Test, Liver Function Test, Uric Acid, Lipid Profile, Blood Sugar, Antistreptolysin O, and C- Reactive Protein.

The doctor said patients are suffering badly as the Analyzer acts as the ‘backbone’ of the hospital.

He said patients are being told to get their tests done outside and which is fair injustice to them.

“Why would patients pay for something that has already been made available for them by the government free of cost,” he asked.

Medical Superintendent, MCCH, Dr Muhammad Shafi said authorities have been informed already about the issue, but nothing is being done.

“We have written two letters, one to the previous Principal GMC Anantnag and second to the incumbent one, and we are still waiting for the response,” he said.

When contacted, incumbent Principal GMC Anantnag, Professor Tariq Syed Qureshi said the said Analyzer is functional at MCCH.

When asked the reporter is calling from the hospital room, he said measures will be taken to make the equipment functional and it will be functional within two to three days. (KNT)
