COVID vaccination of students, staff going on for early re-opening of colleges: Manoj Sinha

Srinagar: The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha on Saturday said that the administration was trying to vaccinate all students and staff of the college to resume the academics at the earliest.

Sinha said: “We are trying to vaccinate the students above 18 years of age and the professors and the teacher in academic institutions so that we will be ready to resume education in college.”

Speaking on the sidelines of an event at SKICC, Sinha further said, “A special vaccination drive is being conducted in this regard.”

Earlier, the Higher Education Department had said that colleges in Jammu and Kashmir will resume physical academics subject to specific permission of the concerned Deputy Commissioners.

Officials of the Higher Education Department informed: “Colleges in Jammu and Kashmir will be gradually resuming the physical academic activities from Monday. Some of the colleges will start functioning from Monday and very soon all the colleges will resume in-person academics”

“Higher education institutions have been permitted to commence with limited in-person teaching subject to 100 percent vaccination of staff and students,” reads the order issued by the department on Friday.

The order reads: “Government degree colleges of the UT shall reopen for in-person teaching subject to specific permission of the concerned deputy commissioners and the head of concerned institutions must ensure that the guidelines related to social distancing and COVID protocol are adhered to in letter and spirit.”

Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha earlier on Wednesday has said that the administration led by him was mulling to re-open all colleges and universities in Kashmir after vaccinating students above 18-years of age.
