Bandipora: The Jammu and Kashmir has said that the militant killed in Bandipora was the same who had attacked and killed BPJ worker Waseem Bari.

While sharing details, the police said two militants including a top Lashkar-e-Tobia militant commander Abid Hakani were killed who was involved in the killing of BJP leader Sheikh Waseem Bari, his father and brother.

The officer identified the second militant as Azad Ahmad Shah, a resident of Bagh Bandipora, who had gone missing since July last year.

According to police sources, Abid, a resident of Papchan Bandipora had exfiltrated to Pakistan via Wagah border in March 2018 and then returned via LOC after getting arms training there.

The operation, according to officials, began this morning after armed forces including the army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), launched a cordon and search operation in Watrina following the inputs of the presence of militants.

“Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition have also been recovered from the operation site,” the officials said.

BJP leader Sheikh Waseem Bari along with his brother Umar Sultan and father Bashir Ahmad Sheikh were shot dead by militants in July.

The militants opened fire indiscriminately on Bari and his family at around 9 pm. They were shifted to a local hospital after the firing incident but later succumbed to their injuries.

The incident took place at the shop-cum-residence of BJP leader Wasim Bari, earlier district president of the party, where some motorcycle-borne militants attacked the three from a close range with a silencer-fitted revolver.
