No person can be forcibly vaccinated without consent: GoI
‘No SoP issued for mandatory carrying of vaccination certificate’
New Delhi: The Government of India has informed the Supreme Court that COVID inoculation guidelines issued by the Health Ministry do not envisage forcible vaccination without obtaining the consent of an individual.
On the issue of exempting persons with disabilities from producing vaccination certificates, the GoI told the top court that it has not issued any SOP that makes it mandatory to carry the vaccination certificate for any purpose.
In response to a plea seeking door-to-door, priority COVID vaccination for persons with disabilities, the GoI said, “It is humbly submitted that the direction and guidelines released by Government of India and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare do not envisage any forcible vaccination without obtaining the consent of the concerned individual. It is further humbly submitted that vaccination for COVID-19 is of larger public interest in view of the ongoing pandemic situation… However, no person can be forced to be vaccinated against their wishes.”
Pertinently, India, in the last 24 hours reported 2,58,089 COVID cases and 385 deaths, pushing the total death toll to 4,86,451, the Health Ministry of India said.
India also reported 466 fresh Omicron infections, taking the total tally of such cases in the country to 8,209, the Ministry said.
