JK police to ensure ‘smooth’ polls in Punjab

Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Police has been tasked to ensure ‘peaceful’ Assembly elections in Punjab as the state is scheduled to go for polls on February 20.

As per the police spokesman of Kathua, the district shares a long border with Punjab as well as International Border with Pakistan, the SSP Kathua reviewed the security at a high-level joint meeting ahead of the 26 January event and “Assembly elections” in Punjab.

Senior Superintendent of Police Kathua R C Kotwal chaired the meeting where officers from Army, Border Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force, and different wings of intelligence agencies were present.

He said as a ‘counter-insurgency expert’, Jammu and Kashmir police has got the responsibility to keep a tap on any subversive activities.

“The top security officials also directed to enhance patrolling and strengthen inter-state nakas for the peaceful conduct of Assembly Elections in adjoining state Punjab,” the spokesman said.

He said, “the meeting also held deliberations on enhancing patrolling and area domination to rule out any subversive activities.”
