Rahul Gandhi’s speech on Modi-Adani links expunged, Congress says ‘can’t eliminate voice of democracy’
Congress on Wednesday said that portions of Rahul Gandhi’s speech that hit out at Narendra Modi for allegedly facilitating the unencumbered growth of Adani Group have been expunged from the Parliamentary records at the speaker Om Birla’s behest.
Taking to Twitter, Congress spokesperson Gurdeep Singh Sappal announced that on Birla’s order, 18 portions of Gandhi’s speech were expunged. He went on to ask, “Hopefully, you too would have listened to his speech. Was it unparliamentary? Is it the same parliament, where opposition leaders were always allowed to freely air their views?”
In another tweet, he said that all the expunged portions contained questions asked by Gandhi to the prime minister “on relationship with Adani, including their travels…”.
“With the expunging of Rahul Gandhi’s remarks on PM linked Adani MahaMegaScam, deMOcracy was cremated in the Lok Sabha. OM Shanti,” tweeted Congress communications chief Jairam Ramesh.
In a tweet later at night, Ramesh said, “18 remarks by @RahulGandhi in LS expunged: 1. Every question asked of PM- deleted! 2. All references to relationship between Adani & Modi before 2014- deleted! 3. Misuse of agencies & foreign trips- deleted! You can expunge, but you can’t exterminate! Jagadguru of Jhoot stands exposed.”
Rahul Gandhi questioned why parts of his speech were scrubbed from parliament records as he doubled down on his attack on Modi over his links with billionaire Gautam Adani.
“Why were my words expunged?” he asked reporters as he headed into parliament during PM Modi’s statement.
