JKP fully equipped to ensure peaceful poll process: Vaid

DGP’s statement comes after Omar Abdullah said that ‘militancy related danger is on a rise’

 

Srinagar: They day after National Conference Working President Omar Abdullah voiced his concern over ‘increasing militancy related danger’, the Director General of Police S P Vaid on Wednesday said that the force will ensure and a fully geared to provide security to candidates and officials during the by-polls.

The former CM had also said that the government has reduced the security of his former ministers and legislators.

“We have sought additional 54 companies for conduct of smooth elections. Police force and the intelligence wing have been kept on alert to combat the threat of the militants,” Vaid said.
The DGP also pointed out special patrolling will be carried out in sensitive areas so that the polling process takes place without any fear of attacks.

“The security of candidates, polling personnel and polling booths will be taken care of. Special patrolling will be carried out in the sensitive and hyper-sensitive areas,” Vaid said.
He further mentioned that any attempt to disrupt the poll process would be nipped in the bud.

“I can assure from the point of the police and the sister security agencies that we are on the ground and we are set to ensure that there is a peaceful election. Any attempt to vitiate the electoral process would not be allowed, “assured the state police chief.
The DGP has ordered the forces to follow the guidelines of the Election Commission of India in letter and spirit. His statement came after NC Working President Omar Abdullah said that militancy related danger was on an increase and the state had slashed the security of his former colleagues.

Vaid also pointed out that JKP is very much experienced in conducting elections and the force along with other security agencies will ensure a peaceful election process.

Former CM Omar Abdullah had said, “As far the current situation is concerned, the militancy-related danger is not decreasing, it is increasing. And on the other hand, the security of my former legislator and former minister is being snatched.”
