In a first, 14 from JK qualify IAS

Srinagar: Fourteen officers will be joining the Indian Administrative Services (IAS) from Jammu and Kashmir this year. It is a record number of candidates from the restive J&K qualifying the top examination.

On Wednesday, the Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) made public the results of IAS in which a total of 1,099 candidates were declared successful. It included 50 Muslims as well across India.

Bilal Mohi ud Din Bhat from Kashmir bagged the tenth rank.

Bilal, 31, hails from Haripora, Unisoo village in Langate area of Kupwara district. He completed his schooling and college from Srinagar before studying Veterinary Sciences in Jammu.

Bilal is currently posted as an Indian Forest Services officer in Lucknow.

He had ranked 15th in Kashmir Administrative Services (KAS) exam in 2012. Two years later, he cracked the Indian Forest Service (IFS).

This was Bilal’s fourth attempt to qualify IAS.

Bilal’s father has retired as a KAS officer while his sister is a teacher. One of his brother works as a doctor in Boston and another is a joint director in the state science and technology department.

Among the other 13 from J&K is Fakhr ud Din, who is a 30-year-old dentist from Bemina locality of the city.

An engineer, Bisma Qazi is a resident of Rambagh, Srinagar.
