Srinagar: An army convoy was attacked on Saturday by suspected militants in Anantnag’s Qazigund area.

A scribe present on the spot told the FreePressKashmir that at least six army men were injured in the attack.

J&K police spokesperson, however, said that officials have rushed to the spot. “We don’t have any details yet,” he said.

“The army convoy was on way to Kashmir from Jammu,” an eye witness said.

“The convoy suddenly came to a halt when people around heard firing shots,” he added without giving his name.

The attack, the scribe said, took place near Lower Munda Toll Plaza, Qazigund.

“Hundreds of forces personnel have rushed to the area and launched search operation,” a local said.

The traffic on vital Srinagar-Jammu highway has been stopped and searches launched.

“The injured army men have been shifted to headquarters of army’s 2 sector located in the area,” the locals said. “They have minor injuries.”

Srinagar based defence spokesperson, Col Rajesh Kalia, did not respond to calls from this newspaper.

Speaking to the FreePressKashmir, a police official from Kulgam said, “there have been firing shots (heard) but we do not have any details of injuries or anything else.”
