NC takes GST concerns to Raj Bhawan; PDP led Govt calls All Party Meet on June 13

Srinagar: A delegation of National Conference (NC) led by Omar Abdullah, former Chief Minister, met Governor N N Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here on Friday while as the PDP led coalition government has called for an All Party Meet on June 13 in this regard.

The delegation comprised of Ali Mohammad Sagar, MLA; Mohammad Shafi Uri, MLA; Mohammad Akbar Lone, MLA; Devender Singh Rana, MLA; Nasir Sogami, Provincial President, NC; Choudhary Ramzan, former MLA; and Shami Oberoi.

The delegation apprised the Governor about their concerns relating to the proposed Goods and Services Tax (GST) legislation which is to be discussed in the J&K Legislature Session beginning on 17th June 2017, an official spokesperson said last evening.

They requested the Governor to advise the State Government to call an All Party Meeting to have an extensive discussion on various aspects of the GST regime, to allay the fears and concerns of the various stakeholders and put the entire concept in public domain for an open debate.

Governor assured the delegation that their concerns would be taken up with the Chief Minister.

The all-party meeting on June 13 will discuss implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) law in the state after main opposition National Conference demanded a wider consultation on the matter.

The meeting will take place at SKICC here on June 13 as formal invitation is being sent to all political parties.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, has sought a meeting the trade bodies of Kashmir which were scheduled to hold a sit-in protest against the proposed GST implementation in J&K state.

The trade will, however, meet Chief Minister in this regard at 3:pm on Sunday.
