Srinagar: The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of J&K Legislative Assembly met on Saturday morning in the state legislature complex here.

Speaker Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta, is chairing the meeting.

The members of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) include Dr Nirmal Singh, Deputy Chief Minister, A R Veeri, Minister for Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs, Mian Altaf Ahmed, MLA, Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen, MLA, M Y Tarigami, MLA, Vikar Rasool, MLA, Mohammad Yousuf Bhat, MLA and Rajesh Gupta, MLA.

Rajeev Jasrotia, MLA and Bashir Ahmed Dar, MLA will be special invitees to BAC.

“The BAC members are in the meeting hall,” an official of the legislature complex said.

The BAC is mandated to decide the business of special session of the legislative assembly.

Earlier, Governor N N Vohra, had called for a four-day session starting from June 17 up to June 21 to debate the extension of central Goods and Services Tax law to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. However, the PDP-BJP coalition government faced stiff resistance from pro-India opposition parties who were joined by the trade bodies of J&K.

The joint resistance leadership termed the GST law a “plan to cripple economy of J&K”.

In a fire-fighting step, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, had called an All Party Meeting but no consensus could be evolved following which a non-government panel headed by MP Muzaffar Hussain Baig has been formed to decide on the GST report which is expected to come within two weeks.

The government is likely going to postpone the session of Assembly up to Eid-ul-Fitr when the report of the Baig headed panel will be ready.
