Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police have detained a Srinagar based journalist on Sunday.

Fahad Shah, is the promoter of The Kashmir Walla – an online news magazine – and writes for various international newspapers and magazines.

A family member of Fahad told the FreePressKasmir that he was detained by the cops of Jammu and Kashmir police early this morning when he was on his way out from his home, along with his father.

“Fahad was detained outside his home by the cops of J&K police who took him along in a Rakshak vehicle,” he said.

Shah lives in the Soura area of the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.

“His father followed the police van which entered the Zadibal police station where from he was driven to Cargo Srinagar,” he added.

At Cargo, an infamous facility which has seen the torture of many alleged militants, the family member informed, Fahad was “questioned” and all his electronic devices were sought from the family.

“The police have returned his iPhone but they have kept the Laptop for forensic tests,” the family member said while he was on way to Cargo Srinagar to sign the release orders of Fahad.

“Fahad Shah was later called to Srinagar Cargo where he is being questioned,” he added.

The officials at Police Station Zadibal Police Station, however, feigned ignorance about anything related to Fahad.

“No, we did not call or detain any journalist,” Shahnawaz Ahmad, the station house officer (SHO) of Zadibal Police station, told the FreePressKashmir.

DG Police, Dr S P Vaid, said that he had no information about the case.
