Cop killing: Mirwaiz sends delegation to Dy SP Pandith’s home, conveys solidarity

Srinagar: While condemning the arrest and harassment during nocturnal raids on the residences of Hurriyat Conference leaders and activists on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq described it as “dictatorial and unethical”.

The Hurriyat Conference (M) spokesperson also condemned the continuous house arrest of its chairperson, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and preventing him from attending the congregation of Juma’at-ul-Vida at historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar on June 23, 2017 which has been the practice of the Mirwaiz of the time for over a century.

“It is for the first time in the recent history of Kashmir that Jamia Masjid was locked down on the occasion of Juma’at-ul-Vida and the devotees who wait for the whole year to participate in this event were prevented by the authorities through the use of force to attend the same,” a statement issued by the Hurriyat Conference amalgam said.

The Hurriyat Conference (M) spokesperson said, “on the basis of sheer use of force, the rulers are curbing religious as well as political rights which is highly condemnable.”

The spokesperson  also condemned the arrest of JKLF chief Muhammad Yasin Malik and nocturnal raid on the residence of Hurriyat Conference leader Ghulam Nabi Zaki and a number of other resistance activists.

Meanwhile, a high level delegation on the direction of Hurriyat Conference (M) chief today visited the bereaved family of Dy SP Muhammad Ayoub Pandith who was killed outside Jamia Masjid Srinagar during Shab-e-Qadr in the intervening night of June 22 ad 23.

Pandith’s family lives in Nowpora area of Srinagar.

The delegation led by Muhammad Shafi Khan and Advocate Yasir Dalal while conveying grief and sorrow on the tragic death of Dy SP Pandith said on the occasion that “Mirwaiz and the Hurriyat Conference does not endorse the brutality of any sort or from any quarter”.

The delegation on behalf of the Mirwaiz conveyed condolence and solidarity with the bereaved family.
