Srinagar: Police in Kashmir have arrested three Hurriyat (G) leaders scheduled to face National Investigation Agency (NIA) officers in New Delhi tomorrow.

Ayaz Akbar, Altaf Ahmed Shah alias Altaf Fantosh and Raja Mehraj ud Din Kalwal were arrested and according to reports were lodged at police station Rajbagh, a claim denied by the police.

All these leaders, whose residences were raided earlier this month by the NIA, were supposed to face another round of questioning by the investigative agency in New Delhi tomorrow.

NIA has raided the residences of separatist leaders and businessmen in Kashmir to probe alleged funding by Pakistan for fueling unrest in Jammu and Kashmir.

“He was taken to police station Rajbagh on Tuesday,” a family member of Hurriyat leader Altaf Fantosh told FreePressKashmir.

The family members claimed that they weren’t allowed to meet Shah.

“In the morning, he was shifted to police station Kothi Bagh. We spoke to him on the phone around 12 p.m. and he said that he wouldn’t be able to make any phone calls after that”, they added.

On contacting the police stations Rajbagh and Kothi Bagh, both the police stations denied having detained any Hurriyat leader and also claimed having no information regarding the same.

“No Hurriyat leader has been detained in our police station, and we have no information regarding it either”, a police official speaking to the FreePressKashmir said.

TeH confirmed the arrest. However, they claimed not to be sure about the reasons.
