Teenager from Pattan gets hit by train, dies on spot

Srinagar: A teenage boy from Pattan died on the spot when hit by a local train on Saturday afternoon.

The train was travelling from Srinagar to Baramulla.

The name of the boy was Taqmeel Majid Ganai, who was the son of Abdul Majid Ganai. He was a resident of Ganai Mohalla, Muran, Pattan. He was fourteen to fifteen years old, according to a railway official.

Another railway official speaking to FreePressKashmir said, “The boy and his cow were close to the railway tracks. When the train driver blew the horn, the cow got startled and jumped on to the tracks. The boy followed his cow and got hit. Tragically, he died on the spot”.

Ganai was out with his pet cow, and around 2.30 p.m., he got hit by the train when he was on the tracks.

A railway official speaking to FreePressKashmir said “The train service hasn’t been resumed. It was stopped after the accident.”

A passenger in the train said that the train service on the track has been stopped and the passengers from the train are boarding buses now.
