Unidentified gunmen shoot dead ex-PDP panch in Anantnag

Srinagar: Unidentified gunmen on Tuesday afternoon shot dead a former People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Panch at Aakura area of Anantnag district.

The killing took place in the Nambal area of district Anantnag late in the afternoon.

Station House Officer (SHO) Mattan Police Station, Towseef Ahmed, while speaking to the FreePressKashmir said, “The man was a shopkeeper and he was shot at his shop by unidentified gunmen.”

News reports said that suspected militants fired at Ghulam Rasool Ganae, a 50 year old former PDP Panch in Southern Kashmir.

Ganie, a former PDP sarpanch received bullet wounds and was immediately shifted to Mattan hospital where doctors declared him brought dead on arrival.

Forces have cordoned off the area to nab the attackers, reports added.

“He was shot at around 7.30 p.m,” the SHO added.

When asked the reason behind the killing, and the identity of the gunmen, he said, “there is no idea about that yet. The investigation is going on.”
