Srinagar: The government authorities on Friday snapped the mobile internet services in Kashmir to prevent ‘spreading of rumors’ over the braid-cutting incidents.

The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik on Thursday had called for a TRC (Tourist Reception Centre) Polo View Chalo (March) to protest against the “conspiracies being hatched by the Indian state” to change the demography of the State of Jammu and Kashmir.

The braid chopping incidents in the valley, which started in Kashmir’s Kulgam on September 14 have created mass panic among the people who have protested against unabated braid chopping incidents in Kashmir.

Earlier in the day, a 70-year-old man was killed when a protesting mob mistook him for a braid cutter today at Danter village, in Anantnag district of Kashmir Valley.

According to media reports, Abdul Salam Wani came out of his house late last night, apparently to answer nature’s call, when he was attacked with a brick.

The reports say that Wani was attacked after people mistook him for a braid cutter.

The 70-year-old was rushed to district hospital Anantnag late last night and then referred to SKIIMS, Soura but couldn’t survive the injuries.

In another incident, unidentified people chopped the beard of a Masjid Imam (Mosque Cleric) in the Budgam district of central Kashmir earlier.

Molvi Ghulam Nabi Ghorsi was on way to Masjid in Futlipora village of Chrar-e-Sharief area early today to lead Fajr prayers when unknown persons caught hold of him and chopped off his beard, local sources said.

In a first, a beard chopping incident has been reported from Kashmir.
