New Delhi: The Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP) has suspended empanelment of scores of newspapers in various states for breaching the norms of journalistic ethics.

According to an Advisory issued by DAVP, following a Censure by the Press Council of India (PCI), the DAVP has, in exercise of the powers conferred under Clause 259(d) of the Print Media Advertisement Policy-2016, suspended empanelment of 51 publications, for breach of norms of journalistic ethics in reporting.

“It has also been decided that the publications which are not on DAVP panel and have been censured by PCI for the stated reasons will not be empanelled or re-empanelled for a specific period,” the Advisory said.

The Advisory said that these publications have been censured by PCI for unethical acts like paid news, irresponsible and malafide reporting, casting insinuation against complainants, inaccurate and disrespectful reporting, publishing baseless and maligning news, using newspaper for blackmail and using registered title in the name of other persons.
