Bengaluru: More a month after journalist Gauri Lankesh was shot dead outside her house in Bengaluru, Karnataka Police today released sketches of the suspected killers and asked for “public help.”
The 55-year-old Lankesh, known for her anti-establishment stand, was gunned down outside her house in Rajarajeshwari Nagar area in Bengaluru on September 5.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing the murder, has also released a video of the suspects that they obtained from the CCTV footage.
SIT chief BK Singh, said: “Two male suspects have been identifying based on information from our technical team and information from locals. We have prepared a sketch of the suspects.”
“Before committing the crime, the suspects had stayed in the City at least for a week and have done a recce of Gauri’s house. We want the public to help us identify if there had stayed in their area,” Singh said.
He said officials investigated about 200-250 people in connection with the case.
Although there are only two suspects the police have released three sketches as they have been prepared based on different accounts.
The portraits, according to the police, have been prepared using enhanced footage from CCTV cameras at Ms Lankesh’s home that captured the recce as well as the shooting. The sketches have also been prepared based on eyewitnesses accounts who said they saw the suspects in the area nearly seven days prior to the crime.
