‘Follow path of Sher-e-Kashmir (Shiekh Abdullah) till the next one is born’

Srinagar: Paying tributes to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 33rd death anniversary, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Chief G A Mir on Tuesday said the PCC is all set for an extensive overhaul and it is the time to remove the deadwood from the party.

Mir, while addressing a huge gathering of party workers who had come from different parts of the state to pay tributes to Indira Gandhi, said the PCC will bring those leaders at the front who have  support in their constituencies and other areas and not those who are leaders just by name.

“We will remove the deadwood. We will give the front stage to those party men who have a following on the ground, those who work and are visible on the ground. Not those who are just leaders wearing sunglasses and travelling in big vehicles and have no support at all,” he said.

Mir while hailing the work of former PM Indira Gandhi said if Narendra Modi rules India for the next 33000 years, he would still not be able to destroy the footprints of Indira.

“Indira Gandhi for her work and commitment towards her people and nation earned her the name of Iron Lady of India. She built India. She had rich affection towards Kashmiris” Mir said.

He asked the workers to follow the path of NC patron Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah till the next Sheikh Abdullah is born.

“We don’t have any leader like Sheikh Abdullah. So we need to follow his footprints till another Sheikh Abdullah is born,” he said.

He said Congress would fight the RSS forces who have strengthened their roots in Kashmir by the blessing of PDP and Mehbooba Mufti.

“We will fight the communal forces and restore the communal harmony in J&K,” he said.

He asked party workers to start preparing for the upcoming Panchayat polls and register a thumping victory.
