‘Create conducive environment for talks before sending us invites’

Srinagar: The Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Wednesday said that the offer for talks over Kashmir issue wouldn’t yield any results till government’s confrontational approach towards the pro-freedom camp wouldn’t end.

Addressing the ‘Seerat Conference’ at Mirwaiz Manzil old city, Mirwaiz said that the offers of dialogue are being made to the pro-freedom leadership in Kashmir by the government of India, however on the other side the people as well as the Hurriyat leadership is harassed and confined in their homes.

“You want us to participate in the dialogue process but how is this possible when people are being huddled in jails and harassed in the name of NIA raids and in the name of national security,” Mirwaiz said in his address.

Mirwaiz also expressed deep concern over the prolonged confinement of the octogenarian Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani, stating that he hasn’t been able to offer congregational Friday prayers for years.

“This is ironic that you are not even allowing us to follow our religious obligations and then you want us to talk to you. I want to affirm this time again that the pro-freedom leadership isn’t going to budge an inch from its stand due to the pressure tactics you create,” Mirwaiz said.

The Hurriyat (M) chairman also claimed that various secret agencies are hell-bent to create a wedge between the Muslim community of Kashmir and divide it on sectarian grounds.

“These agencies are striving to pit one Kashmiri Muslim against the other and the plans are going one since long. We have to understand that if we get divide on sectarian bases then it will be their biggest victory and our greatest ever loss,” Mirwaiz said.
