Authorities on Friday disallowed congregational weekly prayers at the Jamia Masjid in downtown Srinagar.

All gates of Jamia Masjid were locked by government forces while all roads leading to the historic mosque were blocked with concertina wires.

Curfew-like restrictions were imposed in parts of Downtown Srinagar to prevent people from assembling at the mosque.

Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq who addresses the faithful every Friday was placed under house detention last evening.

“18th Friday of this year #JamaMasjid locked down once again by the Anti Muslim ruling regime,” tweeted Mirwaiz.

“@MehboobaMufti following the path, rather breaking the record of her predecessors by disallowing Muslims from offering Friday prayers and imposing restrictions in #ShareKhaas!”

Joint Resistance Leadership has called for protests after prayers today against the killings of civilians, especially two women in Handwara and Shopian during past ten days.
