Srinagar: Christmas is being celebrated across the world with utmost favor and joy. In Kashmir, one of the biggest gatherings took place in Holy Catholic Church, Srinagar.

While celebrating Christmas as the rebirth of Jesus Christ, the Christian community of Kashmir prayed for long lasting peace in Kashmir.

Talking to FreePressKashmir, Father Roy greeted people across the valley and wished them a merry Christmas. “We pray for peace in Kashmir,” he said, adding that Jesus is called the ‘Prince of Peace’ and it is the religious teaching of Christianity to specially pray for peace.

“Celebrating Christmas in Kashmir is a special occasion as people from across the world visit here during winter and come to churches and celebrate Christmas,” said Father Roy. “We prayed for peace. Kashmir belongs to all of us and we live happily together,” he added.

There are about 35 christian families living in Srinagar.

Many Christian families living outside Srinagar also visited the Church to be part of special Christmas prayers. A number of people from different communities also made it to the venue to greet them.
