Scientific fraternity from SKUAST condemns NIA summon to Geelani’s son

‘NIA move affecting university’s academics’

Srinagar: The scientific fraternity of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir condemned the detention of scientist Geelani, Dr Syed Naseem Geelani, son of Hurriyat leader Geelani. Naseem has been summoned again to New Delhi.

The NIA has summoned Dr Syed Naseem Geelani, scientist SKUAST-Kashmir again to their New Delhi headquarters for questioning in connection with an alleged terror funding case.

“Arbitrary summoning and quizzing of Dr Naseem amounts to harassment and mental torture of a scientist of repute besides affecting the university academics. To summon our scientist again in Delhi if anything happen than state govt and GOI is wholly and fully responsible,” President SSTA, Dr S.A. Dar said.

He has been summoned by the NIA, New Delhi thrice and has attended three rounds of questioning to NIA headquarters, New Delhi.

“The time of Scientist is very precious and by frequent calling to New Delhi, a lot of time is involved in this process and by these means the Scientist is losing the opportunities in his teaching, research and other academic activities which are going to affect his career besides the academic activities of the university in a very worst manner.”

SSTA saiad that the NIA should quiz the scientist at Srinagar that besides making burden on his pocket, affects academic activities of the students of the university.
