Monirul Islam, chief of counter terrorism unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police in a statement while terming militancy a global problem has said that Militancy came to Bangladesh from Afghanistan.
He said, militancy rose in Afghanistan in 1979 when international vested quarters misinterpreted religion and used it to influence the people, turning them militant.
“Militancy is not only in Bangladesh but a global problem. Whole world has been suffering the menace of militancy,” Monirul said at a programme in Brahmanbaria according to a report by The Daily Star.
According to the report Monirul was addressing a workshop as chief guest held at Ustad Alauddin Khan municipality auditorium of Brahmanbaria town.
“We are now able to deal with the issue,” he added.
