‘Alert troops’ foil infiltration of JeM Fidayeen group in Uri, five killed: Police

Srinagar: The Army and the Jammu and Kashmir police on Monday claimed that five militants affiliated with the Jaish-e-Mohammad were killed while they were trying infiltrate in the Uri area of Barmulla district.

The Army spokesman told the Greater Kashmir that ‘alert soldiers’ foiled the infiltration bid and added that the operation is still on.

The Director General of police S P Vaid earlier in a  series of tweets said that three ‘suicidal’ JeM militants were killed in a joint operation of the Police, Army and the CRPF.

In the following tweet he informed that a fourth militant has been killed.

The police informed that the militants were planning a Fidayeen (suicide) attack however ‘alert’ soldiers foiled the bid by engaging them.

“From the recovery of arms/ammunition and other war like stores it appeared that the militants had come with a plan of undertaking a Fidayeen attack and belonged to Jaish-Muhammad militant group,” said the Senior Superintendent of police (SSP) Baramulla Imtiyaz Hussain.

He pointed towards the alertness of the troops for successfully challenging the Fidayeen group.
