New Delhi: Subramanian Swamy, the BJP leader has called for toppling the Mehbooba Mufti government in JK for filing an FIR against the Army in the Shopian incident.

“What’s this nonsense? Dismiss that government. Tell Mehbooba (Mufti) to withdraw the FIR else her government would be toppled,” Swamy told ANI.

Two civilians were murdered and six others injured after Indian Army opened fire on protesters in Ganowpora hamlet of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on last week. Reports said that army personnel arrived at Ganowpora village to remove a banner. As the army tried to remove the banner, a group of youth pelted stones on them.

The army according to eyewitnesses retaliated with firing. Witnesses added that army fired upon youth directly resulting in the injuries of at least 11 persons. The police registered an FIR of Murder, Attempt to Murder under the Ranbir Penal Code against the personnel of 10, Garhwal unit, of the Army. A Major, who led the Army personnel at the time of the incident, was also named in the FIR.

Another youth who was injured in the incident succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday taking the toll to three. Shopian is observing a complete shutdown against the killings from the past seven consecutive days.

The PDP-BJP coalition in J&K is in turmoil after Mufti defended the police action and refused to cave in to the saffron party’s demands for immediate withdrawal of the FIR.

Incensed at this snub, Swamy railed: “Why are we even running that government? I haven’t understood that till date.”

Later in the day, Swamy took to Twitter and augured that the FIR was a precursor to renewed demands for independence and would lead to “more bloodshed” in the Valley.

Last year, Swamy had said that the only solution of the Kashmir issue is ‘depopulation’. He had said that for a few years Kashmiri Muslims should be kept in refugee camps in Tamil Nadu.
