Shopian Civilian Murders: Malik reaches Shopian, likely to lead protest March

Srinagar: Mohammad Yasin Malik, chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front on Friday reached Shopian. His is likely to lead the protest rally against the civilian murders by the Army.

Malik, had gone into hiding to evade arrest on Friday, a spokesman of the JKLF had said.

“Early morning, after two day long and tedious journey and hiding, Malik reached Jamia Masjid Shopian,” he said.

Meanwhile, the district is witnessing curfew like situations put in place by the authorities to prevent any kind of protests.

The Joint Resistance Leadership on Thursday had called for Shopian March to protest the murder of three youth who were killed by the Army recently in Ganowpura area. The Army said that they fired in self defence when they were provoked to the ‘ultimate’ by a stone pelting crowd.

The Police has registered an FIR of Murder, Attempt to Murder, and Endangering Life against the Army. The BJP had demanded that the FIR against the Army should be withdrawn and a new one be lodged without naming anyone.

However the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said that the investigation in the case would be take to its logical conclusion.

A BJP leader Subramanian Swamy threatened Mehbooba Mufti to withdraw the FIR against the Army otherwise her government will be toppled.
