Army opens fire on youth in Kulgam, one injured

Kulgam: A youth identified as Arif Ahmed Lone, was injured in Kulgam district on Monday after Army opened fire on a group of protesters who pelted stone on them.

The incident happened in the Hawoora-Mishpora village of Qaimoh area of the district. The Army opened fire after reportedly a group of boys ‘booed’ them and pelted stones at them when they were patrolling the area.

The victim, Lone, was taken to the sub-district hospital Qaimoh, where from he was referred to the District hospital Anantnag for specialized treatment.  The victim is believed to have suffered a bullet injury in his mouth.

Locals said that army ransacked several houses and thrashed the inmates. A woman, whom they identified as Reena, was shifted to a hospital following the thrashing.

Meanwhile, a Srinagar-based army spokesman said they were ascertaining the details about the incident.

Recently Army murdered three youth in Gawanpora area of Shopian after they opened fire on them. Reports said that army personnel arrived at Ganowpora village to remove a banner. As the army tried to remove the banner, a group of youth pelted stones on them.

However the Army in its statement had said that they fired in self defence after they were provoked to the ‘ultimate’.
