Maqbool Bhat’s anniversary: Chenab valley to observe shutdown, ‘solidarity day’

Srinagar: Anjuman-e-Islamia Bhaderwah, a religious organization has said that Chenab Valley will observe a shutdown on the eve of Maqbool Bhat’s anniversary.

Pervaiz Ahmed Shiekh, head of the organization has said that they support the strike call given by the Joint Resistance Leadership comprising of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik.

The announcement was made by Sheikh after the culmination of congregational Friday prayers at Markazi Jamia Masjid Bhadarwah.

“We have given a shutdown call for 11th February (Sunday) to support the protest call of Hurriyat conference on the death anniversaries of Maqbool Bhat and Muhammad Afzal Guru,” said Sheikh.

While stressing that the people of Chenab Valley have an unequivocal stand on Kashmir issue, Shiekh added that the ‘dictatorship’ of the ‘RSS backed leaders’ won’t be tolerated.

He also announced that day of Bhat’s hanging would be observed as Solidarity Day.

“We have also decided to observe it as solidarity day with people of Kashmir and to let both union and state government know that we stand for the cause of Kashmir. The dictatorship of RSS backed leaders cannot be tolerated. We have appealed people of Chenab Valley to observe peaceful bandh on Sunday,” said Sheikh.
