Trade can be a ‘tool for peace’ between India and Pakistan, say Joint Chambers

Srinagar: The Joint Chambers of Commerce and Industry (JKJCCI) while sharing their vision for 2018, said in a statement that India and Pakistan can use trade as a ‘tool for peace’.

In a meeting chaired by Javid Ahmed Tenga, the President of the JKJCCI, a memorandum of understanding between the three chambers-Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Jammu Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Azad Jammu & Kashmir Chamber of Commerce, was discussed.

The statement said, “The President  Javid Ahmad Tenga shared the vision of JKJCCI which includes free travel and trade regime between all parts of Jammu & Kashmir, travel and trade as tool for peace between India and Pakistan and trade and travel as tool to move forward on peace.”

The President also apprised about the goals to be achieved in 2018 which includes having a ‘Joint Kashmir Expo’ in the United Kingdom in the summer of 2018 and then in the USA in 2019.

Moreover, a joint business delegation will go to Turkey in 2018, the statement pointed out.

The President also informed that the AJK Chamber will follow their side with the respective government regarding  CPEC.

Tenga also added that steps sjould be taken for digital connectivity of three regions and create awareness regarding the vision of the Joint Chamber through social media.

The statement also informed that it was decided that an effort will be made to have the first meeting of whole Executive Committee of the three regions or two regions at Zero Point in Salamabad / Poonch, Rawalkote.

“The Joint Chamber will follow up with the concerned government of both the sides of LoC for the first visit from our part to AJK for which necessary invitation has been received and the process has already started,” the statement said.
