Kathua rape and murder: ‘How can a puppet regime take action when cabinet ministers side with the accused’

Srinagar: Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani lashed out at chief minister Mehbooba Mufti for her ‘criminal silence’ over the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Kathua and said that efforts by the ruling dispensation to shield and to give cover to the real culprits is the biggest irony.

“We have no doubt that the so-called alliance is being run from Nagpur,” said Geelani in a statement.

Strongly criticizing the rally in support of the accused in which two cabinet ministers took part, Geelani pointed out that ‘how can a puppet regime take due course of action against culprits when its two cabinet ministers participated in the rally.’

“Despite restrictions on public rallies, the pro-criminal rally was organised which clearly illustrates that they believe in bullying and lawlessness in state which is already at its peak,” the statement added.

The two ministers who took part in the rally were Industries Minister Chander Prakash Ganga and Forest Minister Chodhary Lal Singh.

Citing the statement of two cabinet ministers wherein they demanded to handover the investigation of the case to CBI, Geelani said that communalizing and politicizing a murder and rape case is unacceptable.’

The octogenarian leader said that it is highly condemnable that these ‘pro-criminals and campaigners’ have tarnished all ethics and instead of providing any relief to the victim’s family, they are being intimidated and harassed on one pretext or the other.

He added that the pro-criminal rally reflects the ‘total moral bankruptcy’ of ruling partners.

“Threatening Gujjars in Kathua depicts their sick mindset for reaping political dividends,” the statement pointed out.

Geelani added that those in power corridors can go to any extent and in his fervent appeal asked people to disassociate from these ‘opportunists, who for the lust of chair, take people for granted and play with their sentiments.’
