Says ‘no political dictations taken for providing security’

Srinagar: Director General of Police (DGP) Dr S P Vaid here on Friday said that police department does not have the manpower required for providing security to all Ex-panchs, Sarpanchs and protected persons numbering around forty thousand across the state.

Vaid said it is not humanly possible to provide security ‘to every tom dick and harry seeking security’ in Kashmir and denied the allegations that security has been withdrawn to member of any political party on political dictations.

In reply to a question Vaid said, “ADGP security is not a political man and police department does not take dictations from political parties in providing security to people who have threat perception. I may clarify it here that a committee constituted for the purpose looks into the threat perception on the basis of which decision to provide security to the applicants is taken.”

When asked whether he would review the policy for providing security to people demanding it in the aftermath of the killing of some political workers in different parts of Kashmir valley in recent days, the DGP said, “I don’t review the security policy but there is a multi member committee which looks into the threat perception of the people demanding security and accordingly decisions are taken.
