Civilian killed, another injured after army opens fire in Kulgam

Army says they fired in self defence 

A civilian was killed and one more was injured after the army opened fire in Akhran-Nowpora area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Monday.

Youth reportedly pelted an army patrol of 9 RR with stones at Akhran-Nowpora in Kulgam.

The army said that they opened fire to disperse the protesters, resulting in injuries to two civilians.

An army spokesman told Greater Kashmir that they fired in “self-defence” after a patrol party came under heavy stone pelting by mob at Nowpora Akhran Kulgam.

The injured were rushed to a hospital for treatment. However, one of them succumbed on the way. The deceased was identified as Aijaz Ahmad Bhat son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat of Nowpora Akhran.

The other injured was identified as Rayees Ahmad.
