Anantnag gunfight: Militants reportedly affiliated to Islamic State JK, says Vaid
Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir state police chief and Director General Shesh Paul Vaid tweeted on Friday that the local militants that were killed in the gunfight at Khiram Srigufwara in Anantnag were reportedly affiliated to the Islamic State.

The gunfight, which started at 5:30 am led to four militants being killed. Police officials received inputs from intelligence that there were militants present in the region, reported news agency PTI. The search operation had turned into a gunfight when the terrorists opened fire and the police retaliated.

The Ramzan ceasefire agreement that had been announced by the government of India ended after the festival of Eid, an auspicious occasion for Muslims around the world.
After the collapse of the BJP-PDP coalition, BJP had said in a statement that there would be “no mercy for terrorists”, with Ram Madhav saying that there was no question of suspension of anti-terror operations after Rising Kashmir editor Shujaat Bukhari was assassinated on June 14 by a three unidentified gunmen.

Earlier, a civilian and a policeman were killed and a woman, two army men were injured during the gunfight.
The civilian identified as Muhammad Yousuf Rather is the owner of the house where militants were hiding. The woman injured, identified as Hafeeza is his wife. Both were taken to the sub-district hospital of Bijbehara however Rather was declared brought dead. Hafeeza has been shifted to SKIMS for treatment.
Two army men and a cop of Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police were injured in the firefight. The injured were rushed to a hospital where the cop succumbed.
Meanwhile, massive clashes have erupted near the site of the gunfight and in the adjoining areas. According to reports, nearly twenty civilians were injured in clashes that erupted soon after the gunfight began. They have been shifted to several hospitals in the district for treatment.
