Brother of IPS officer joins Hizb, pictures goes viral on social media

On July 8 militant outfit Hizb-ul-Mujahideen released pictures of new recruits which included brother of an Indian Police Officer (IPS) Shamsul Haq Mengnoo. The image was shared on social media, and has gone viral.

Shamsul, 25, went missing in May this year, sighting that he might have joined the militant ranks. He was pursuing his pursuing his Bachelors of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) from a government college Zakura on the outskirts of Srinagar.

A police officer was quoted as saying, “Yes, Shamsul has joined Hizb-ul-Mujahideen.”

Shamsul is a younger brother of 2012 batch IPS officer Inamul Haq who is presently posted in northern India.

The picture released on social media by Hizb-ul-Mujahideen shows Shamsul holding a gun and the date of his recruitment-May 25, 2018. His code name shown in the picture is Burhan Sani.

Shamsul is the fourth highly-educated youth to join militant ranks this year.

Besides Shamsul, Hizb has also released pictures of over a dozen other new recruited militant on Burhan’s anniversary.

Over 50 youth already have joined militant ranks so far this year.
